Loudon County E-911 uses map data from the Loudon County Geographic Information System. Our computer aided mapping system has been operating since early 2001. We use various MicroStation software products to view and edit map data.

Loudon County is strategically located in East Tennessee, and is a part of the Knoxville Metropolitan Statistical Area. It is projected that Loudon County will have the third fastest growth rate in the region at 60.0% between 1990-2020. The Loudon County E-911 Center currently serves over 39,700 people.
Objectives
The primary objective of the Loudon County Communications E-911 Center was to increase efficiency providing a faster response time. The Center handles approximately 130 calls a day (45600 calls per year).
When an emergency call was received, the existing system displayed the caller’s name, phone number and address. However, it did not provide mapping information. The call was then dispatched to a local agency. Loudon County Communications needed to incorporate a fast and accurate method to confirm directions to the emergency location. They also wanted to share mapping information with other county agencies.
ModernTech SI Solutions
After assessing Loudon County Communications’ needs, ModernTech SI recommended building on their MicroStation foundation. By integrating Bentley’s GeoEngineering solutions, MicroStation GeoGraphics, GeoAddress, and GeoAddress Locator, Loudon County Communications now has an automated solution that is providing a faster response to emergency calls.
ModernTech SI has worked closely with Loudon County E-911 to upgrade their hardware, build an Access database, and customize the applications. Their mapping information was stored in several locations; paper maps, field sketches, and computer maps. This information was combined into one source using Access and GeoAddress. Loudon’s database then was synchronized with the BellSouth Master Street Address Guide. Customized training was conducted for 12 dispatchers and a mapping administrator.
Results
Loudon County E-911 is successfully utilizing the GeoEngineering solution. It has provided them a significant increase in their response time by providing fast and accurate address information. ModernTech SI is continuing to work with Loudon County Communications to identify ways to customize the system for even greater efficiency. They also continue to expand their mapping database and are now able to provide address information to other county agencies. ModernTech SI is honored to help Loudon County Communications E-911.
Life Saving Mapping
Loudon County E-911 has been a part of a countywide Geographic Information System for several years. ModernTech SI helped us utilize the G.I.S. data for the benefit of the citizens of Loudon County.
Our new mapping system provides E-911 dispatchers with an almost instant map of the location of an emergency call. They can also manually lookup locations of non-emergency calls. Geoaddress and Geoaddress Locator are useful and potentially lifesaving tools for E-911 dispatchers, emergency responders, and ultimately the citizens and visitors of Loudon County.
ModernTech SI and Bentley have helped Loudon County E-911 make more progress with our G.I.S. mapping solution in the past few months than we had previously made in the past few years.
